Abstract: (113 Views)
Introduction: The burden of diseases and psychological disorders as well as its financial burden has increased greatly in the world. Usually, they have financial problems and need financial support. In Iran, insurance organizations are hesitant to include psychological counseling services in the benefit package. The Welfare Organization and the Ministry of Health have service coverage, which are insufficient.
Methodology: A descriptive financial study. Using the registered statistics of the Iranian Statistics Center, the report of the mental health survey of the Ministry of Health, determining the prevalence of disorders and the percentage of severity of disorders (mild, moderate, severe) and interviewing experts were collected and calculated.
Findings: Taking into account the prevalence of the disease in Iran, the percentage of severity of the disease and the number of counseling sessions required for each group of patients, and the consultation fee, the financial burden of counseling is estimated to be about 45 thousand billion Rials per year, which if we consider the coinsurance rate 70%, the financial burden of the insurance organization will be more than 31 thousand billion per year.
Conclusion: The financial burden of psychological counseling is very high and insurance organizations cannot afford it. It is suggested that in some disorders that are important from the point of view of social health, the insurer should cover the services, but in other cases, the financing should be provided by support and welfare services such as subsidies. Expanding welfare services with the help of donors and chaities can be helpful.
