Reimbursement is of vital importance in the sustainability of the health system, medical equity, and pharmaceutical industrial development. The specialized meeting on "Reimbursement Policymaking in the Iranian Health System" held in October 2025 was an effort to implement the clauses of the general health policies announced by the Supreme Leader and the tasks of the Seventh Development Plan of the country and to find ways out of the current problems, with the aim of accelerating the creation of a sustainable path in access to health goods and services in the country's health system, considering the country's scientific and industrial capacities, evidence-based policymaking, full implementation of the tasks of the Seventh Development Law, promoting financial transparency, and using international experiences.
In this one-day meeting, the challenges of the country's reimbursement system were discussed and examined, and the desired future of reimbursement policymaking was outlined, thus providing an opportunity to critically review past mistakes, benefit from global experience, and design a fair, transparent, and sustainable reimbursement system for a healthier and more efficient future in the country.
